Abstract

A prototype free-form surface modelling system has been developed, which can be used as a tool for shape modelling in a general product modelling framework. For the integration with product models, surface models are represented by the non-manifold data structure which is capable of representing various kinds of shape information in a unified manner. For surface geometry, we have adopted rational Bezier expressions, and developed flexible surface control and connection methods. For system realization, we have designed and used a geometric modelling library which includes various supporting functions for geometrical and topological operations. The prototype system is now being evaluated for designing products with aesthetic features. Some examples of surface generation are shown.
