Abstract

For maxillary and mandibular deficiencies of a primarily aesthetic nature, restructuring the soft tissues of the face with one's own fatty tissue has the potential to be a great tool for maxillofacial surgeons. In this article, Savastano and his colleagues attempt to demonstrate the potential applicability of fat grafting to the maxillofacial region. Even though the basic theories they propose have a somewhat sound basis, the actual procedure described and the cases presented do not follow these theories. Furthermore, the limited analysis of the few patients' results and the lack of clear documentation concerning these results make it difficult to be enthusiastic about their approach.
