Abstract

We have constructed the free energy functional for quasi-crystals to investigate the phase transition and spatial fluctuation of phason strain observed in the AlCuFe system. The effect of composition variation as well as phason strain is introduced to express the free energy. By analysing the model free energy, the phase diagram of this system is investigated.
