Abstract

A modified four-constant Oldroyd model is used to predict the film thickness in free coating. The parameters are evaluated from previous steady shear data. The flow is assumed to be one of combined steady shearing and elongation. Despite the use of an integral momentum balance approach the agreement between theory and experiment is not good. However, the results seem to indicate that a more adequate characterisation of the coating fluid might produce better agreement.
