Abstract
Picosecond luminescence studies of hot carrier thermalization are reported for GaAs. We find a slowing of the thermalization of the photoexcited hot carriers at highest excitation intensities. This reduced cooling is explained by free carrier screening of the Fröhlich interaction of electrons and holes with polar optical phonons.
