Abstract

The posterior sternoclavicular dislocation is a rare traumatic injury that presents a potencial risk of injury to mediastinal structures. The diagnosis is mainly clinical and treatment is urgent. The authors report a case of a young judo athlete who suffered a traumatic medial epiphyseal fracture-dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint, with posterior dislocation. He underwent open reduction and ligament repair using a mini-achor. The radiological and clinical outcome was excellent, and the athlete returned to his sports activity without limitations. We discuss the particularities of this pathology as well as the different therapeutic approaches and their complications.
