Abstract

France’s regional planning experience is described. Its territorial development policy from the late 1940s to the present is looked at. The success of this policy and the methods by which it was achieved are analyzed. The key role of the state in the working out and application of regional policy methods is underscored. The substantial contribution of financial institutions supporting small and medium business to the development of French regions is described
