Abstract

Within 5 years (1973–1977) 171 facial fractures were treated surgically at the University ENT Clinic Marburg. 115 cases (67%) showed a fracture of the orbital floor, either an isolated blow out-type (24 cases), or combined with fractures of the orbital rim in combination with zygomatic fractures (49 cases) or irregular fractures combined with other midfacial lesions (42 cases). The treatment consisted in an implantation of autogenous material, covering clefts in the orbital floor and refixation of bony fragments with wires at the orbital rim. Synoptometric investigations enable a more exact diagnosis in all types of orbital fractures and demonstrate exactly the functional results.
