Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present a methodology for the estimation of the fragility of an isolated FBR (Fast Breeder Reactor) structure. The method is based on the regression analyses between the intensity and response of an earthquake motion. The regression analyses were made using the results of non-linear responses of the structure with observed and/or artificial earthquake waves, where the peak ground velocity V p proves to be proper as an independent variable. Using the functional relation between the response and V p , the reliability index and probability of failure of the structure member for a given V p are obtained. The regression error is taken into account by confidence interval. From numerical examples it is shown that the reliability of the isolator is dominant in the total reliability of the isolated FBR structure.
