Abstract

The diagnosis of Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) is often difficult to formulate due to the non-specificity of the clinical presentation and the difficulty in the anamnestic review of the traumatic event that leads the patient to be evaluated by the PS pediatrician. An accurate clinical evaluation, the support of blood chemistry and instrumental tests and the recognition of environmental risk factors in the family context could be able to exclude other conditions. The prognostic sequelae vary greatly and can lead to permanent outcomes and death.
