Abstract

1. The most applicable for determining the fracture toughness of TsTBS-3 piezoelectric ceramic is the double torsion method, which with sufficient simplicity provides the true value of fracture toughness of the piezoceramic. The double torsion samples are also suitable for investigating slow crack growth in a piezoceramie. 2. The impression method is convenient for measuring fracture toughness directly on production parts and in those cases where preparation of special failure mecahnics samples is difficult. Since this method provides too high a determination of fracture toughness, with its use for new materials it is desirable to make control tests by the double torsion method. 3. Further theoretical investigation is necessary for the purpose of explaining the difference in the values of fracture toughness obtained by the double torsion method and the impression method.
