Abstract

To utilize conventional testing methods and a variety of software appropriate to fracture mechanics tests, it is desired to develop a test method using compact-type specimens for ceramics. For ceramics, however, it is difficult practically to introduce a precrack into the specimen. In this study the utility and applicability of a chevron-notched specimen method and a compression damage method are discussed.
