Abstract
Fracture behaviour of ferrocement has been studied using contoured double cantilever beam specimens. The influence of different percentages of mesh reinforcement and initial crack length on the fracture behaviour are investigated. The specimens were subjected to two types of loading: 1. monotonic loading until complete failure and 2. unloading-reloading technique. The permanent deformations obtained in the case of ferrocement specimens are found to be dependent on the initial notch depth. R-curves were obtained using different methods available in literature and compared. As deformations are influenced by the initial notch depth, the R-curves obtained taking into account the effect of permanent deformation were found to be dependent on the initial notch depth. The R-curves are also influenced by the percentage of mesh reinforcement. The values of strain energy release rate in R-curves (G R) are found to increase with the increase of percentage of mesh reinforcement.
