Abstract

Little information on fracture porosity has been published on the Gulf Coast area. In one fractured limestone reservoir cited, intergranular porosity varies in permeability from bed to bed. Open fractures are detrimental rather than beneficial in being channels for bottom-water migration. A serpentine plug cited is highly fractured and fracture porosity has caused considerable increase in the total porosity. Fracturing is one step in the formation of salt-dome limestone cap-rock reservoirs such as Spindletop. Fracture porosity in competent and incompetent beds around the salt domes has not been evaluated.
