Abstract

We propose a microfractographic method for the evaluation of the technical state of rolled carbon steels after long-term operation based on the construction of a correlation dependence between the brittle fracture resistance and, in particular, impact toughness, and the ratio of the areas of fractographic elements of embrittlement to the area of ductile topography. The critical state of steels after operation is substantiated by the qualitative changes in the elements of embrittlement in fracture surfaces, namely, the delaminations typical of the subcritical state are replaced with transgranular cleavages. This corresponds to the bifurcation point in the correlation dependence typical of numerous steels independently of the conditions of their operation.
