Abstract

The sialyl oligosaccharides of human milk are partially separated by ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose in acetic acid-pyridine buffers, pH 5.4. One neutral and seven sialyl oligosaccharide fractions are obtained in essentially quantitative yields. The method permits the large-scale preparation of sialyl oligosaccharide fractions from which individual sialyl oligosaccharides may be purified without the necessity of preparative high-voltage paper electrophoresis.
