Abstract

AbstractA method has been developed to determine the distribution of the molecular weights of the high polymers. The basis of this method is the separation of the fractions by lowering the temperature of a solution of the polymer containing a precipitant. Experiments have shown that the reproducibility of the method is good. By using a constant solvent/precipitant ratio in different fractionations, it is possible, from the temperature of precipitation, to estimate approximately the limiting viscosity number of the fraction obtained.
