Abstract
The motive of this paper is to extract maximum power from a wind energy conversion system (WECS) which has a variable speed wind turbine connected to a Doubly fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Here a relationship between decoupled rotor current of the DFIG and the electromagnetic torque is shown. The electromagnetic torque is used to extract the maximum power from the WECS. For this purpose, a fractional order sliding mode controller is developed for fast response and to reduce the chattering phenomena. The system is developed and tested for tracking capability in the MATLAB-Simulink environment at a varying wind speeds. The performance of the controller is tested against the classical PID controller to prove its superiority.
