Abstract

An overview is given of the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) effect. Emphasized are recent experiments on the anomaly in transport at v = 1/2, suggestive of a new correlated ground state, the fractional charge of quasiparticles/quasiholes of the 1/3 FQH liquid, and the long anticipated transition from the incompressible FQH liquids to deformable solids.KeywordsIncompressible LiquidFractional ChargeDeformable SolidFractional Quantum Hall EffectCorrelate Ground StateThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
