Abstract

Background and objective. In this paper, fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller has been designed in parallel control structure (PCS) to regulate the frequency deviation in power system.Methodology. The parameters of the FOPID controller have been obtained by minimizing the integral time absolute error (ITAE) of the frequency deviation using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. PCS decouple set-point tracking and load disturbance rejection. Hence it is an effective solution for LFC problem. Results and achievement: Simulation studies have been carried out for single area thermal power system with reheat and non-reheat turbines and for two area power system. It is observed from the simulation results that the proposed scheme show better performance than recently reported literatures.
