Abstract

Fractional laser,a new design for cosmetology,has shown a promising prospect in the treatment of melasma. It acts mainly through local photothermolysis, a new concept of selective photothermolysis.There are two kinds of fractional laser,nonablative and ablative,both of which are somewhat effective in the treatment of melasma.The efficacy of fractional laser is associated with therapeutic parameters,Fitzpatrick skin types,post-therapeutic management,types of melasma,and so on.The side effects of fractional laser mainly include temporary erythema,edema,burning and pain,which are often tolerable.Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation appears to be the most common adverse reaction.
