Abstract

We discuss fermion fractionization at finite temperature in a continuum field theory that describes a linearly conjugated diatomic polymer. Our analysis, which is based on the use of a trace identity, provides a new technique to evaluate fractional fermion numbers in general renormalizable field theories.
