Abstract
Abstract The pore structure of organic shale with nano-scale pores is important for reservoir evaluation. Fractals shows the self-similarity of shale rocks and can reflect the pore structure. The fractal dimension of organic shale from nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement was studied and some equations were directly derived based on NMR transverse relaxation time (T2) distribution. In a case study, the fractal dimensions were calculated by the proposed method and numerical simulation, and the formation cementation index in Archie equation for saturation evaluation was calculated from the fractal dimension of NMR logging. The comparison of calculated water saturation and the core experiment result prove that the proposed method is more effective than the previous Archie’s equation with default cement index.
