Abstract

SPECIFIC BLOCKADE of the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) reduces the morbidity and mortality associated with septic shock. FR167653 has been shown to be able to inhibit the production of these proinflammatory cytokines in human monocytes, resulting in a protective effect against septic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation. FR167653 has also been reported to show a protective effect against ischemia reperfusion injury of the liver, lung, kidney, and small intestine by its ability to inhibit IL-1 and TNF production. In this study, the effect of FR167653 on intestinal ischemic injury was investigated in the rat model.
