Abstract
In this paper, we propose edge detection control of RGB color images using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) implementation. To implement edge detection of noisy RGB color images, we used HiTechLogic’s AFPE-003 FPGA platform. The platform has external SRAM and a LCD as a part of this board to display the output image. The proposed algorithm is successfully implemented and the resultant Sobel edge-detected image is displayed on the LCD display, which is interfaced with Altera’s Cyclone-III EP3C16Q240C8N device. The proposed filters showed excellent noise cancellation for various noises. The measured average runtime to perform the algorithm was only 0.16s display 338×350 image, and the proposed method showed fast runtime of 5.75 times as compared with conventional result.
