Abstract
Fox-Fordyce disease represents a chronic pruritic eruption localized to areas bearing apocrine glands. We report the successful control of Fox-Fordyce disease with topical 0.1% tretinoin cream (vitamin A acid cream). <h3>Report of a Case</h3> The patient, a 21-year-old woman, had a three-year history of an intensely pruritic papular eruption of her pubic area and axillae (Fig 1). Itching was worse during the summer months and in warm environments. She also noted such decreased hair growth in the involved areas that she never had to shave. Her medical history was unremarkable. She had never been pregnant, and she had been taking oral contraceptive pills for the past year. These had had no effect on the course of the eruption. On her initial visit, a biopsy specimen from the left axilla revealed a histologic picture consistent with that of Fox-Fordyce disease.
