Abstract

Most reported cases of Fox-Fordyce disease have occurred in females. The series of Shelley and Levy 1 is the largest to date and includes 14 females but only one male. Winkelmann, Kierland, and Montgomery 2 found 23 cases in males reported in the literature and added an additional 1 of their own. They believed a reasonable female to male ratio to be 10:1. Shelley and Levy also pointed out that most of the women were in the 13- to 35-year-old age group. The disease has never been observed before puberty 3 and only rarely after the menopause. The present report deals with a patient who developed the condition shortly after a surgical menopause.
