Abstract

Fox-Fordyce disease in males is infrequent but not rare. While the total number of cases of this entity reported in the literature does not allow significant statistical analysis, the impression left by early authors concerning the extreme rarity of the condition in the male is not warranted. According to estimates by Neumark 1 and Schwank, 2 10% of the reported cases of Fox-Fordyce disease occurred in male patients. Del Vivo 3 found that in 14 of 132 cases collected from the literature the patients were males. One of the first two cases recorded by Fox and Fordyce 4 was that of a young boy.
