Abstract

Four-wave mixing and two-dimensional phase conjugation of surface plasmons at an interface between a mental and a non-linear dielectric medium is considered. Equations describing degenerate four-wave mixing are given, which are similar in form to the equations for optical four-wave mixing of plane waves. The effectiveness of the nonlinear polarization, which has a different vectorial structure and a different spatial intensity distribution from those of generated surface plasmon wave, is estimated by consideration of energy balance. Numerical estimates are made for the ruby laser frequency and silver-CS 2 interface.
