Abstract

The semiclassical Wannier theory introduced by Rau (1971) and by Peterkop (1971) is extended to fourth-order in internal coordinates. A diabatic potential energy examined by the author in a previous paper is improved and used to define a diabatic transition probability and hence to calculate relative corrections to the Wannier power law that agree with data on both hydrogen and helium to some 10 eV above threshold. In addition, a diabatic momentum wavefunction is derived and mutual energy and angular (S-wave) distributions of the escaping electrons examined.
