Abstract
Architectural space is not only related to the dimensions of length, width and height that can be easily perceived by our eyes, but also the dimension of time. When user explores a space, he experiences the unity of space and time. Thus, it is actually possible for designers to create a multi-sensory sensation that not remains in giving a static spatial experience, but spatial sensation that grows or moves with time. The unity spatial-time experience had been created by architect Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) in one of her works, the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, South Korea. Zaha Hadid uses design technology, especially in lighting design, to provide a gradual experience of space. Its user will have a gradually evolving design experience from simple into more and more complex, until it becomes a comprehensive one. The study uses a a case study method that is preceded by development of theory in multi-sensory design and fourth dimension of space. Analysis on DDP using variables generated from the theory. It results in the role of technology to produce multi-sensory designs that provide a unified spatial-time experience to design users.
