Abstract

Objective: In a resource scant area we attempted to manage OCD with four sessions of CBT by communicating cognitive conceptualization (CC) through use of a metaphor for easier understanding and adherence to exposure exercises. Method: We evaluated its effectiveness on OCD symptoms, using Yale Brown obsessive compulsive scale (YBOCS) and quality of life of the patient (QOL) using WHOQOL-BREF. Result: Following four sessions of CBT, conducted one to one basis over span of 6 weeks, there was considerable reduction in OCD symptoms & improved QOL. The improvement was maintained at one and 12 months. Conclusions: It appears that four sessions CBT may be a potential option for treating OCD but control studies are needed for further confirmation.
