Abstract
In this paper, a modular multilevel converter (MMC) is proposed based four-port power electronic transformer (PET). Medium-voltage AC(MV AC) and medium-voltage DC(MVDC) ports provided by MMC, by using a symmetric submodule of the upper and lower bridge arms of each phase for low-voltage ports, the PET minimizes the number of switching devices and transformers, the cost is 56.8% lower than the existing traditional PET. This paper primarily examines the characteristics of the PET structure, as well as the control approach. A simulation experiment demonstrates the usefulness of the PET, and a cost comparison analysis shows that the PET has good economic benefits.
