Abstract

Fourier transform infrared microspectrometry was used to investigate minute product defects found in manufactured tobacco products. Examples are presented in which both infrared spectra and morphological observations were used to determine the sources of quality control problems. These analyses include identifications of an adhesive contaminant, paper blemishes and foreign bodies entangled in final products.
