Abstract

Three four-element planar arrays, with the radiating elements being cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas excited by probes at the HE11δ mode, are reported. The first array produces broadside radiation, whereas the other two provide maximum radiation at elevation angles of ∼35–40°. The resonant frequency, radiation pattern, gain, unloaded Q-factor, and impedance bandwidth of each array configuration are reported, and the experimental results are compared with the theoretical values. Results indicated that the gains of the three configurations were greater than the gain of the single element by factors of 4, 3, and 2, respectively. For all configurations, the impedance bandwidth was increased by ∼30° with respect to that of the single antenna. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 18: 315–319, 1998.
