Philip, A. G. D. Abstract Forty-eight B- and A-type stars with visual apparent magnitudes from 4.3 to 14.5 have been measured photoelectrically in the Str6mgren four-color system. In a 34 square degree region surrounding the South Galactic Pole (from the list of Philip and Sanduleak), all stars classified as spectral type AS and earlier were measured. Of the 26 early-type stars in this area, 15 were classified as members of Population I, four were Population II, four were an intermediate population, two were B-type, and one was peculiar. In agreement with a similar study at the North Galactic Pole (Philip), Population I stars were found at large distances from the galactic plane, but were in the minority (three out of 10) relative to the evolved stars. The color excess in the central 34 square degree region is EB - V = 0.02.
