Abstract

Four new species of the genus Lycodon (L. alcalai, L. bibonius, L. chrysoprateros, and L. solivagus) are described from Batan, Camiguin, Dalupiri, and Luzon islands of the northern Philippines. These species are similar to L. dumerili and L. muelleri but distinct from other Philippine congeners by having a slightly arched maxilla, medially divided nasal, and an entire anal shield. Lycodon alcalai and L. chrysoprateros differ from all other Philippine species of Lycodon in lacking transverse light bands on all of the body and tail. Lycodon alcalai differs from L. chrysoprateros in having more than 200 ventral scales (less than 195 in L. chrysoprateros). Lycodon bibonius is distinct from other Lycodon species in the Philippines in having 22-25 and 16-21 pale bands on the body and tail, respectively; L. solivagus is characterized by 13-14 pale bands occurring only on the anterior three-fourths of the body.
