Abstract

A long-term strategy for nuclear power developments in Japan is proposed. The situation in the world has greatly changed in the recent years due to the rise in oil prices as well as the considerable concern about the environmental problems caused by the nuclear power plants. Stress is being placed on the harmonization with the environmental protection rather than on the economical generation of the nuclear power. In order to meet the future requirements, five systems are given for the short, medium and long ranges beyond the year 2000. For the final stage a system is proposed that combines Fusion-Fission Hybrid Reactors (FFHR) with Very High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors (VHTGR) to supply clean energy.
