Abstract

My gloved hand eased open the hospital room door. Wearing layers of personal protective equipment, I swished into the room to find Eli*, a one-year-old with leukemia, sitting in a rocking chair tucked into the arms of his mother. With practiced speech, I introduced myself as the fellow on the interprofessional palliative care team. Eli's mom explained that she had been expecting our team, and waved our group into the room. I smiled and pulled an extra chair across the floor, ready to absorb a story.
