Abstract

A closed form expression is derived for the effective aggregate throughput delivered to a population of users in a downlink time-division duplex wideband code division multiple access (TDD WCDMA) cellular system. The throughput is expressed in terms of two main classes. The first class includes parameters that are associated with the wireless physical (PHY) layer and medium access control (MAC) sublayer of the TDD WCDMA system. The second class is a discrete random process that reflects the users' channel characteristics in terms of stochastic behavior of the joint signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). The parameters in the first class are analytically defined while the second class is analytically undefined. A method using computer simulation is also presented for calculating the parameters in the second class.
