Abstract

As of this writing, AAMS is putting the finishing touches on our official position about the dangers that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) pose to our industry. There have been a multitude of alarming headlines already: UAV activity impeding firefighting operations in the Northwest; a Fresno, CA, medical helicopter’s near miss with a UAV in July; and, just a few days ago, the crash of a UAV into the stands at the annual U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, NY. Sadly, there will be more of these headlines by the time you sit down to read this issue of the Air Medical Journal; I sincerely hope there is not tragedy tied to any of them.
