Abstract

After a concise note about the author’s position in its original system and beyond, this work aims to study and put in relation several aspects related to the Portuguese translations of Edgar Allan Poe. The translations, the media in which they were published - newspapers, magazines, anthologies and books - and the translating activity in itself are important factors to take into account when considering the literary fate of Poe’s works translated into Portuguese. At the same time, a few statements are advanced on how the various producing and distribution strategies determined the fortunes of the literary works of Poe translated in Portugal.
