Abstract
In order to estimate, without recurrence relations, the number of surviving annuitants and widows at some future point of time, starting from a fixed number of active persons, a set of commutation columns of a new type is constructed. The use of these is equivalent to the methods of actuarial valuation of the usual kind of constant or increasing contingent reversions. In this way the initial and final ages can be varied without difficulty. In estimating the number of widows, account can be taken of whether or not the widows’ pension is payable in respect of marriages after retirement.
