Abstract
In a February 2022 discussion, Stephen Pitti—the director of the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration—and the historian Max Krochmal led a conversation with a group of oral historians to discuss practices of Latinx oral history research. The historians, Katherine Bynum, Sandra Enríquez, and Joel Zapata, share their insights on the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project and the anthology book that arose from the project. They discuss fieldwork they conducted for the project in East Texas, the High Plains, and along the US-Mexico border, before turning to introductions of their monographs in progress and new and emerging oral history projects in Arizona, Missouri, and Oregon. The conversation further explores the challenges and opportunities of Latinx oral historical practice, including ethical considerations and teaching, as well as the project’s innovative digital humanities website.
