Abstract

Urban space is a dynamic system influenced by many factors. The formation of the transport structure in the city determines the type of planning structure that forms the spatial framework, and then the functional organization of the territories is determined. This allows us to create an effective functional and planning structure of urban space. But cities are changing, their needs, definitions, and especially their functions are changing, so modifying existing planning approaches is a pressing issue for urbanists and scientists around the world.
Modern urban spaces have a number of problems that are caused by overpopulation of cities, congestion of communications and socio-economic relations in countries. Therefore, the challenge for the modern city and its territory is to find solutions and methods that can counteract the rapid urbanization process and work to preserve the natural and historical environment of the city. When solving urban planning problems, the functional and planning structure of urban space should reflect the formation of the city environment in terms of its functional and spatial planning characteristics and define tasks in accordance with the established characteristics of the space. In order to solve the urban planning problems of modern cities, it is necessary to define the tasks and problematic issues of urban space organization.
This article reviews and summarizes the concept of the functional and planning structure of urban space as a design object. According to the author, before determining the functional and spatial-planning characteristics of urban space structures, it is necessary to define tasks that will help to establish urban planning and human needs on the ground.
