Abstract

The article reports on the social responsibility of business enterprises. The author focuses on the ethical and moral components being integrated into corporate culture after the social uprising which took place during the 1960s. Issues including civil rights, women's liberation, ecology, and consumerism made it necessary for businessmen to develop costly corporate social policies. According to the author, there are three methods that can be used to persuade executives to implement the aforementioned policies, including moral suasion, compulsion, and conformance. Financing issues related to policy implementation are also discussed. Social policies implemented by the Whirlpool Corporation are mentioned.
