Abstract

This short communication considers the problem of robust elliptic positioning (EP) in α-stable impulsive interference based on the ℓp-norm minimization criterion. We start with converting the associated nonconvex optimization task into the well-established ℓp-minimization framework of iteratively reweighted least squares (IRLS). While the effect of p is taken into account by a weight update step in each IRLS iteration, we employ an assortment of surrogate functions, in order to effectively handle the location update subproblem using the majorization–minimization technique. The superiority of our proposal over a number of existing EP methods in terms of localization accuracy in α-stable impulsive noise is demonstrated via numerical simulations.
