Abstract

Analysis of the angular distributions of the final products of the B s 0 → J / ψ ϕ decay chain allows the determination of B s 0 mixing parameters, in particular the width difference between the B s 0 weak eigenstates, Δ Γ s , which is at present not precisely measured. It also allows measurement of the CP-violating phase ϕ s of the B s 0 system, which is expected to be very small (0.03 rad) in the Standard Model, but might show large non-Standard-Model enhancements. The high production rate of B s 0 mesons at the LHC will permit precise measurements of these quantities; the performance of the three LHC experiments which have a B physics programme (ATLAS, CMS and LHCb) will be presented.
