Abstract

p p annihilation into three mesons from the S-wave is analysed in the annihilation model or the planar diagram model. We adopt the constituent quark model and assume that the q q pair is created/annihilated with the vacuum quantum numbers. Three mesons are produced by annihilation of two q q pairs and subsequent two q q pair creation. We consider the meson channels which are combinations of three s-wave mesons and combinations of a p-wave meson and two s-wave mesons. The branching ratios of S-wave p p annihilation at rest into mesons can be roughly reproduced by an appropriate choice of the strength of annihilation into three mesons in the annihilation model A3 and that into two mesons in the annihilation model A2. In the rearrangement model R3, annihilation into a p-wave meson and two s-wave mesons from the p p S-wave is forbidden, while in the annihilation model A3, it is allowed. Consequently, a large difference occurs in the fractions of two and three meson intermediate states leading to the final 2 π +2 π −, 2 π +2 π − π 0 and 3 π +3 π − between A3 and R3.
