Abstract

The railway is a typical example of a natural monopoly, where till the end of the 20th century almost in all continents the management of infrastructure and provision of transport services was done by the one state-owned company. Than in 1991. the European Union (EU) has decided to introduce the market to the railway infrastructure. This paper presents the forms and instruments of the regulation of the railway market and the regulatory body as part of the EU concept of the railway market regulation. In last chapter has been given assesment on the current range on the market regulation of the railway infrastructure in Europe.
